Wonder of Nature
Earlier
this week, RM, the leader of BTS (a Korean boy band that’s currently gaining millions
of fans in the U.S. and across the world) released a new mixtape. I saw the
notification pop up on my phone during Anthropology and I barely stopped myself
from running out of class to listen to it. During lunch, I was finally able to
listen to the whole mixtape, and it was BEAUTIFUL. Every single track. I didn’t
just like these songs, they sincerely moved me. What made this
music so different? I realized that many of the tracks incorporated nature through
sounds effects, imagery, and metaphors. One of the songs has the sound effect of
rain for a solid ten seconds in the beginning, and even just listening to that
somehow moved me. One of the most beautiful lyrics (from the track “Everythingoes”)
translates to, “Like morning comes after night, if summer comes after spring/
Like berries bloom when flowers die, everything has to hurt/ I hold onto the
world and take a deep breath, the hot air that fills my lungs says everything/
the long, painful, dull times I wanted to run away from are right there”. Beautiful.
I would say
that nature is one of the few beautiful things that people never get tired of. We
can see hundreds of rainbows and sunsets and feel the same swell in our hearts
as we felt the first time. I think that nature is profound and even therapeutic
in some ways. The lyrics above aren’t talking about beautiful things. They’re
talking about the difficult, hopeless times in a stark manner, but as it is compared with nature,
it somehow gives the lines an essence of hope. Nature is able to move people this
much, even by just the mention of it in the lyrics of a song. It made me wonder
how and why nature has this power. I still haven’t found an answer, and I think
it makes sense. Something as wonder-filled and awe-striking as nature couldn’t
possibly be explained easily.
I totally agree with you. Just being surrounded by nature makes you feel some type of way and it's hard to describe, but it's almost like this heart-warming/wholesome feeling that you get in your chest. Last Sunday, my friends dragged me to go on a hike with them at Kickapoo State Park at 5:30 in morning, and to be completely honest with you, I really did not want to go. It was freezing at first but after hiking for awhile, I actually enjoyed it. The trees looked absolutely gorgeous in the sun, and the river that was going through the woods was so pretty, and just being surrounded by all of that felt so amazing. Plus, I ended up being really productive that day as well, which I rarely am on most days lol :)
ReplyDeleteNature is truly amazing. It doesn't matter if you are walking at a park or hiking in the mountains, nature will always be beautiful and fascinating. Going outside really helps clear my mind. In fact, I often get headaches or unwell if I stay inside all day. Additionally, I feel like nature can evoke emotions incapable of being felt anywhere else. For example, on the German trip we went to the top of the tallest mountain in Germany. The spectacular view I had made me feel like I was (literally) on top of the world, a unique feeling and experience.
